must successfully complete the application process, which includes
submitting an application for employment and passing required
typing and filing tests.

The Clerk's Human
Resources Division also maintains a job line that has employment
information available 24 hours each day. The job line phone number
is (407) 836-0013.
Where do I need to go to
fill out an application?
You can
download an application (PDF) from this
web site, or obtain a printed application from the Clerk's Human
Resources Division at 425 North Orange Avenue, Room 325, Orlando,
Florida 32801. You must submit a complete and legible application,
and you are encouraged to submit a resume and any letters of
reference at that time. Please remember that filing an application
with the Clerk's office does not imply that you will be
interviewed or hired.
What happens after I submit an
application?
Once you have submitted an application for employment, the Human
Resources Clerk will schedule an appointment for typing and filing
tests.
What is the minimum typing
requirement?
The function of the Clerk's office is primarily clerical;
therefore, you must be able to type at least 30 correct words per
minute. The typing test is designed to measure your computer
skills. You will be given a five-minute timed typing test. If you
cannot type 30 words per minute, or if you are not sure of your
current typing speed, do not schedule an appointment for testing.
We recommend that you practice your typing skills at home until
you are able to type at a rate of 35 words per minute before you
schedule an appointment for testing.
What kind of tests are the filing tests?
The Clerk's Human Resources Division administers three types of
filing tests designed to measure your filing ability. You must
pass each test with a score of at least 50% to be considered for
employment. The three tests are described below.
-
Number
Perception. This test requires the applicant to quickly
examine and compare pairs of numbers, looking for those that are
identical.
-
Name Finding.
This test requires you to observe a name and remember it well
enough to identify it from a group of similarly spelled names or
names that are presented in a different fashion on the reverse
side of the test sheet.
-
Number Series
Completion. A number series is a set of numbers that are
related according to a specific rule or pattern. This test
requires the applicant to supply the two numbers that should
come next in each number series.
What happens after I am tested?
Once you have submitted an application for employment and you have
passed the required tests, your application will become active for
a period of 60 days from the date of the application. The manager
of the office that has an opening reviews active applications and
selects several applicants to interview. You will be contacted if
an interview is desired.
How will I find out if I am offered a
position?
Due to the large volume of applications filed, the Human Resources
Division does not provide position status information by phone.
You will be notified by mail of any interview outcomes.
Am I required to take a drug test if I am
offered a position?
Yes. If you are offered employment, a pre-employment physical
examination, including a drug screening, is required.
What is the starting salary?
The current starting salary for most positions is $7.50 per hour.
